How to Make $1125.00 an Hour Selling Cars – Part 1

Here’s how Ryan Rose made $4500.00 in profits selling used cars ($1125.00 an hour)…and how he did this in only four hours…while he was insanely busy doing other stuff.

Here is the email Ryan sent me…

Hey Steve, hope all is well. I’ve had a pretty good March. So far I’ve sold 4 cars on a very part time basis. I’m just now this coming week going to be starting my full time schedule buying and selling cars. I’m writing you today to tell you about the insanity which was the past 24 hours, which in short saw me sell two cars and make a killing, all the while, the buyers were getting good deals at the same time, so without any further ado…

Mazda 3S for saleTen days ago after church on a Wednesday night, I met a young lady looking to sell her 2007 Mazda 3s with 155,000 miles. She lived an hour away from me, but actually met me at my car lot because she was in the “big city” (only 100,000 people) and was planning to buy a car right after I bought hers. She had listed the car on Craigslist for $3500, and actually posted great photos and a good description.

I think the reason I was able to buy this car as opposed to someone beating me to the punch had to do with her listing it in a town with a small population and about an hour away from our metro area.

Through texts and phone calls I’d gotten her down to $2500. When we met up I surveyed the scene, had a dent in the rear driver side bumper, driver side window was a bit quirky, AC needed a recharge, had a check engine light, and was filthy on the inside.

I test drove it and the 2.3 L V-4 engine was actually quite impressive, it also had a sunroof, slap shift trans option, premium sound system, leather, etc. Lots of sizzle – my kind of car. I came back and told her I wasn’t sure I wanted to pay $2500 for it. (I didn’t say I wasn’t willing, just that I didn’t want to, I wanted to pay $2,000.) She said, “How about $2200?” I knew I had her at that moment, so I countered back at $2,000 and pulled out the cash. Of course I won this battle of negotiation and bought the car!

I spent 10 minutes pulling trash out of the car and parked it on my lot, they’d apparently ran it through the car wash because the outside looked great and the leather itself was clean, just lots and lots and lots of trash. (I don’t know how people get that much stuff in a car, I actually found a hatchet in there, yes a small axe with a sharp blade.)

So far I’ve invested probably an hour total in texting, test driving and cleaning the car out.

I was having a very busy week as it was my last week at the church I’ve worked at for the past 7 and a half years. I put the Mazda on my car lot but I didn’t have time to take pictures, post it online, put a sticker price on the window or anything. I literally worked my final 14 days straight at the church and we had a big conference this past weekend which ended on Saturday afternoon.

I was fortunate to stop by my car lot on the way home to take care of some paperwork and I just happened to be there in time to meet a couple who saw the Mazda and wanted to test drive it. I explained all of the quirks about the car and handed them the keys and let them take it for a spin. They came back after about 20 minutes (swung by auto parts store to check engine code, it was something minor).

We discussed price, which I really hadn’t even thought about, but I told them my bottom dollar was $4,000. (The car was worth around $4800 private party.) The said she wanted the car but needed to get financing. FACE PALM: It kills me when people don’t come with cash in hand. Sometimes I literally have no patience. I’ve learned to cope though and found a local finance company that’s pretty easy to work with. I sent her to the finance company and finished my final week out at the church and my wife and I went on vacation for a week.

I stayed in contact with the buyer as she got all her financing together. I spent another 15 minutes sending info to finance company about the car. We came back on Friday, met up at the finance company, they cut me a check for $3500 and she paid an additional $500 in cash.

We met back at my car lot, did all the paperwork, I handed her they keys and it was a done deal! I’m estimating that I spent 3 hours total on this car, and that’s rounding up, I probably spent less time than that. So I sold this car on Friday, 9 days after buying it and I made $2000 profit for roughly 3 hours of work.

Mercury Monterey for saleA week before I bought the Mazda 3s, I had found a really nice 2004 Mercury Monterey van that was FULLY LOADED with leather, all power options, power doors, stow and go seating, parking sensors, heated seats, 3x Climate Control for front and rear, captain’s chairs. It goes on and on. Lots of SIZZLE. It only had 117,000 miles and I thought this would be a great vehicle for my wife since I had just sold her Tahoe that same day (kinda in the dog house for that one, don’t worry it gets worse for me).

I ended up getting this immaculate Mercury for only $3,000. It literally was in UH-Mazing condition. I moved my kid’s car seats into the van and migrated my wife into it the same day so she wasn’t without a car for more than a few hours. Sold my Tahoe in the morning and bought this right after lunch. I was kind of a hero…for a few days at least.
