How to Make Over $1000.00 an Hour Selling Cars – Part 2

This is part 2. Click here to read PART 1 of how to make over $1000.00 per hour selling used cars in your spare time.

Mercury Monterey van for saleAs I said before, we went away for a week on vacation after our final day at the church and left the 2004 Mercury Monterey van with my mother in law since they were watching our kids. She loved the van. My father in law loved the van. My sister in law loved the van, and of course my wife loved it.

I had decided since I was listing everything we owned on Craigslist I would go ahead and list the van. I listed it at a close to retail price this time as opposed to the normal private party values I usually sell my cars for. That way if someone was interested and wanted to buy it, it would be worth our while to let the van go.

Well, I listed it last night (Friday) at midnight and got a call this morning (Saturday) from a couple saying they really were interested in the van and wanted to see it. They asked if I could come down on the price and I said that I couldn’t right now. (I always play hard ball starting out, knowing that eventually I’ll come down a little bit once I see money.)

They came and met me at the car lot and I still had all my stuff from my office at the church in the back of the van along with car seats, cheerios, and who knows what else. Before they got, there I spent 15 minutes unloading our stuff into my car lot office.

They showed up on time, test drove it, and said they liked it. They had just looked at another vehicle before that was newer with less miles and wanted to know if I could come down any more on the price. I smiled and said, “Not really, because if I do, I think my wife might murder me!”

All the while, I didn’t really think they were that serious about the van, but then they said: “Okay, we want it.” and proceeded to pull out the cash for my full asking price of $5,500.00. (I only had $3,000 in the van.)

I was literally shocked, it was just too easy this time. I’m not joking. I didn’t “sell” them the car. I didn’t talk it up. I didn’t do anything but let them drive it. It’s a VAN, a nice van, but still a VAN! They just wanted it. The thing sold itself! We sat down and spent another 15 minutes doing paperwork and counting those Benjamins!

I figure that I spent literally less than an hour on this van. All I did with this van was to put gas in it while my wife and family drove it for two weeks.

So I had just sold her car – my wife’s car – and once again in the dog house. Second time I’ve done that in 2 weeks, but at least I had a nice profit to show for it. I literally had this car sold at the same time today that I sold the Mazda 3s yesterday. (This is Steve here…  I laughed out loud when I read this last paragraph because I remember ticking the wife off a few times from doing the exact same thing!)

So that was 2 car sales in 24 hours which made me a total profit of $4,500.00.

I figured total I put 4 hours or a little less into these two vehicles combined, which made me $1,125.00 an hour while working with the vehicles, the original sellers, and the new buyers.

So for any of you that aren’t sure you have the time to do this, I listed a lot of details about my everyday life in this email to showcase that you can do this with a busy life schedule on a very part time basis.

I’m now going full time, but part time in the last 6 weeks I sold 10 cars while working full time for our church, parenting a 4 year old and an 18 month old, serving as the President on a Board of Directors, and while being a Men’s Ministries Leader for our Section of my Denomination.

I’m not bragging about my credentials. I’m letting you know that I’m busy, and if I can do this, so can you! I’m just now this coming week starting out full time, I’m serving part time at a church as their Associate Pastor (something I’m very passionate about, but they don’t have the funds right now to pay me full time like our last church did) so I’m supporting our family with our car lot.

I’ve been selling cars on a part time basis for 5 years. I waited 5 years to open my car lot – and not because I was lazy, not because I needed the experience. (In my second year of selling cars I made $25,000.00 doing this in my spare time.)

I’m not the best in the world at this, but I am dedicated. If you put time, effort, passion, and common sense into this, you too can make a good living or second income buying and selling cars.

I had 10 cars and sold 2 so I still have 8 at the time of writing this. I’ve got about $18,000 wrapped up in my inventory with roughly another $14,000 to spend.

As always Steve, thanks for all your wisdom and advice in your information as all of it has been essential in my development and crucial to my success!

Seize the day everybody, happy hunting, and hoping you have a blessed week! I’m including a few pictures of my car lot too, please feel free to share.

Cordially,
Ryan
