8 Signs You Need To Start Your Own Business

I hate my job, job frustrationI’m asked sometimes by those caught up in jobs they hate if buying and selling cars is the right business for them.

Just asking that question is a symptom of wanting more freedom.

The attainment of personal freedom always starts with a burning desire to change your life.

I know from personal experience that the decision to start your own business can be tough, so here are a 8 signs that I hope will help make that decision a little easier.

I’m sure you can come up with a few more so let’s consider this just a start…

1) DREAD:

You just enjoyed two days of freedom and as Sunday evening approaches you find yourself feeling a sense of dread knowing that tomorrow morning you have to start the work week all over again.

2) ALARM CLOCK:

Instead of waking up when you’re done, you’re jarred awake by the rude interruption of an alarm clock. You keep hitting the Snooze button while thinking about all the BS in store for you at your job.

You know that the moment you get out of bed your morning will be a blur of all the activity required to get ready for work.

You reflect on the horrible drive through morning rush-hour traffic you will soon be enduring.

You think about all the lifeless faces in the cars next to you that reflect the same sense of dread you will be feeling.

3) CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE:

You don’t feel like it’s you that has control of your life.

You desire control of your life now and control of your future.

You know that your time and income is directly controlled by others who don’t have your best interests at heart.

4) EVENING DOWNER:

Your work day is over and now you have to deal with the commute home. What should be a 15 minute drive home takes over an hour due to grid-locked rush hour traffic.

You finally get home and you want and need to do something that rejuvenates and refreshes you but you can’t because you have no energy.

You seek distractions so your thoughts don’t focus on the fact that your job is not only ruining your days, but it’s also ruining your evenings at home.

5) BURN OUT:

You know there has to be more to life but your job leaves you feeling depressed, hopeless, and drained.

The passion you used to feel in your youth is but a fleeting glimpse.

You feel hopeless and no longer write out your goals.

6) NO FUN:

Your life isn’t fun anymore. You rarely have time to do the things you passionately love to do. And when you do have the time, you feel too tired to do them.

7) FAMILY:

You hardly see your kids and it hurts to see how quickly they are growing up without you.

When you come home from work you don’t have the energy to even deal with them.

8) FINANCIAL FREEDOM:

You live paycheck to paycheck with hardly enough income to pay your bills.

It pains you to think about how you are only one or two paychecks short of possible homelessness.

You know you’re worth more. You want the kind of income that’s directly based on your efforts instead of time wasted working for “The Man.”

“Hey, that’s me. What should I do?!”

The first challenge is to be aware that you’re experiencing all or most of those signs, so congratulations if you are!

FINDING A MENTOR

The next challenge is to find a mentor that can teach you what’s needed to learn your business.

Find a mentor that can fulfill these standards…

  1. Trust: Your mentor must be someone you can trust.
  2. Experience: Your mentor must have experience in the business you want to start.
  3. Training: You don’t want theory. You want clear and thorough step-by-step training.

      Hi Jorge,

The good thing is that at least you’ve been breaking even instead of losing money. I know you want to make money and the key to that is to learn a system and consistently apply that system. When you do that you’ll see your profits will be consistent too.

      Thanks for commenting.

      Hi Steve,
Can you really do this without a dearlers lisence? I ask because everywhere I turn they say you need a lisence. It seems to be overwhelming getting one.

        Hi Charlie,

Every state has a maximum number of cars that you can legally sell per year without a dealers license. This amount typically ranges from 2 to 6 per year. However, who’s to say your wife or child (or dog) might sell a car here and there? Having said that, I’ve had countless “curbstoners” over the years sell as many cars as they wanted per year simple because they were honest with their buyers and didn’t piss off of their neighbors because they turned their front yard into a used car lot.

The clerks that work at the government agency that handle vehicle paperwork in your town are mainly concerned with making sure every “i” is dotted and every “t” is crossed on the paperwork and not with policing who is selling what. So until Big Brother gets a lot bigger and less brotherly, I personally would not concern myself too much with that. The only reason these limits exist is because the dealerships hired lobbyists to schmooze with state politicians to keep you out. Obviously this is BRIBERY and this barrier to entry is done for the purposes of minimizing competition. Having said that, for legal reasons I can NOT and will NOT recommend that you curbstone. In my book though, I devote a chapter to this and discuss a 100% LEGAL and cheap way to sell as many used cars as you want per year without having your own dealers license.

        I hope that helped. :-)
