12) Question: Can your book save me money and time when buying a good used car for myself?
Answer: YES absolutely! The techniques in my book and my two check lists will make it much easier for you to find a good used car, and how to question the seller, inspect it, test drive it, negotiate a much lower price like Jared from Salt Lake, Utah did...

"After reading your book, I purchased a 97 Sable for $250. I was offered $1100 for it but decided to keep it for my wife. Now we have a reliable car without another payment. Your book is awesome!"
Jared Mitchell, Salt Lake, Utah

And like Duane Jordan from South Carolina did...

"...we agreed on a cash price of $550.00. In comparison, this truck would easily sell for $2000 to $2500. Now I have an economical truck to run around in! Take care."
Duane Jordan, North Carolina

13) Question: Why do many states in the U.S. and other countries have limits on how many cars you can buy and sell per year without some kind of dealers license?
Answer: Because...

A) Its another way for the states/countries to generate revenue via their license fee's.
B) Big car dealers got together and paid lobbyists to encourage state legislators to create laws to cut out competition under the guise of "protecting the consumer."
C) There were dishonest private party sellers ripping off people by lying to them about the condition of the junk cars they were selling.

It is a combination of ALL the reasons shown above, but I think reason 'B' is the main reason these laws exist. Why? If the state implemented these laws to truly "protect the consumer," then consider this...  How often do you hear of a crooked used car sales person going to jail because they ripped someone off in a subtle way? Its extremely rare. Oh sure, they may go to jail for stuff like messing with an odometer, or selling a stolen car, or leaving town with a customers deposit, etc. But have you ever heard of a new car salesperson being arrested or penalized because they lied to the buyer about the points they tacked onto the loan without telling them? Or they lied to the buyer about how "low" their FICO Score was, or how funky their credit report was (when it was neither) so they could offer them much more expensive financing, thus costing the buyer hundreds or perhaps thousands of dollars more over the term of their car loan? Or the hundreds of dollars in bogus "mandatory fee's" they tacked on to the price of a new car? Or the ridiculously over-priced extended warranty they shoved down the buyers throat by telling them that it was required? This scamming goes on all day everyday and yet it is extremely rare that a car salesperson is penalized for this dishonest behavior.

So do two wrongs make a right? Absolutely NOT and that is why YOU must ALWAYS be totally honest and upfront with your customers about the condition of the cars you are selling them! Anything less than that is extremely uncool.

14) Question: Are there ways to deal with those limits?
Answer: I'm not a lawyer so I can not and will not give legal advice but I can tell you that some "curbstoners" stay off the paperwork whenever they can because they sell their cars within days after buying them and/or they will put the names of the cars they buy and sell into the names of family members or friends, etc. I spoke to one guy that puts ALL the cars he buys and sells into his own name because there is no law in his state that says you can't personally own as many cars as you want.

PLEASE NOTE: After you start to get a good feel for how to do this by getting some profitable car deals under your belt, you can then look into what it would take to get your own dealers license. I think starting small is the best way to get going but if the restrictions and/or expense in getting your own car dealers license are too great where you live, then you should seriously consider becoming an "associate" under someone elses license. Being an "associate" basically gives you all the advantages of having your own car dealers license (buy and sell as many cars without limit and attend wholesale dealer auctions nationwide) for as little as a $50.00 filing fee.

15) Question: What about those "associate" deals I see advertised on Craigslist?
Answer:
Be careful of those deals (as seen on Craigslist for example) that will make you an associate for a big fat upfront fee, plus monthly fee's, because you can easily find other car dealers that will be very happy to include you as as an associate under their license for no money upfront, no monthly fee's, and just a little of the profit on the cars you sell.

16) Question: Why would someone with a car dealers license want to ME as one of their associates?
Answer:
Its a no-brainer because wouldn't YOU want to be in the very cool position where you are making a little profit off something that required absolutely NO investment of your time or money? Of course you would, and so would anyone else.

Remember This: It is ALL negotiable, so if the car dealer you approach about being an associate under their license wants a big fee upfront, or big monthly fee's, or anything that doesn't work for you, then just go...NEXT!...and move on to the next car dealer (there are millions of them!) until you find one that can work with you.

17) Question: But can I start buying and selling cars for profit today?
Answer: YES! The important thing is to start now because that will help you in deciding what area you want to go into...whether to stay curbstoning, or to get a car dealers license later. Again, don't fall victim to the paralysis of analysis. Start now, and as you gain experience, you will flow into whatever level works for you with the very necessary foundation revealed in The Lazy Way To Buy And Sell Cars For Profit.
